Electrochromic Electrodes with Enhanced Performance: Review of Morphology and Ion Transport Mechanism Modifications

The electrochromic (EC) performance of smart windows is highly dependent on the rate ions insertion/extraction. A direct way to increase ion exchange in EC device modify structure electrodes. Structural changes also affect electrical conduction between transparent electrodes and layers, leading efficient windows. In more detail, modifying results an surface-to-volume ratio, which combined with charge transfer reaction insertion extraction ions. current review summarizes enhancement due fabrication nano/microstructures or hybrid structures surface their area. Moreover, metal oxide thin films have poor conduction, leads a high transport barrier. Accordingly, improving conductivity layer considered another effective strategy enhance conductor electrode. This behavior could be applied by combining transition metallic nanoparticles suitable organic/inorganic conducting materials.
